A ‘furnished holiday-let’ is a type of property business which can offer the owner a number of tax benefits that are not available for a normal buy-to-let. In order to qualify as a furnished holiday-let the property must be let out on a short-term basis in a furnished property. In addition to this, the property will need to be available for letting for 210 days a year and actually let for a minimum of 105 days a year. The tax benefits can include full offset of mortgage interest, a capital gains tax rate of 10% and in some cases 100% relief from Inheritance Tax where services are provided as part of the let.
